On Tuesday 29th May 2012, in Dubai, an exclusive Pearl Initiative luncheon and discussion was held with the Ambassador of the United States to the United Arab Emirates, Michael H. Corbin.
The luncheon was a private, Chatham House rules, informal forum of 17 UAE CEOs and Chairpersons with the Ambassador, on the topic of corporate transparency.

The Pearl Initiative held a CEO Summit on Ethical Leadership on 1st May 2012. The CEO Summit was under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE at the CERT Campus (Center for Excellence for Applied Research and Training) in Abu Dhabi.

Pearl Initiative Roundtables on Corporate Good Practices in Anti-Bribery and Corruption
The Pearl Initiative held Roundtables on Corporate Good Practices in Anti-Bribery and Corruption – in Qatar and Bahrain on 13th and 14th March 2012. More than a hundred and eighty chief executives and senior finance, accounting, audit, compliance, legal, and governance professionals, from private and public companies and government institutions, participated in the interactive roundtable sessions. The aim was to facilitate the sharing of insights and learning between organisations with experience and interest in improving policies and actions to mitigate the risk of possible corruption throughout their organisations.

TIRI Arab Integrity Education Network Meeting
From 2nd-5th March 2012, The School of Business and Management at American University of Sharjah, along with the Pearl Initiative, hosted the TIRI Arab Integrity Education Network. This is a network of professors from Universities across the Arab world working together to develop meaningful and empowering courses in Arabic that help students build values, integrity and a toolkit for implementation in future working life. This meeting was a working group of 28 Professors coming together to develop a full-semester course curriculum on ethics in Arabic.

Pearl Initiative Participates at ECOSOC Event in New York
Badr Jafar, the Co-Initiator of the Pearl Initiative, delivered an address at the closing session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New York on 27th February 2012, giving the 500 delegates a bracing analysis of the employment problems facing the youth of the Middle East.

Pearl Initiative Roundtable on Integrated Reporting
A Pearl Initiative Roundtable on Integrated Reporting was held in Abu Dhabi on 14th February. Along with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group, more than fifty senior finance, accounting, compliance, sustainability and governance professionals participated in the interactive roundtable session – with the aim of facilitating the sharing of insights and learning between organisations with experience and interest in greater levels of sustainability and financial reporting.

Integrated Reporting Roundtable, Dubai, 29th November 2011
An Integrated Reporting roundtable workshop was held jointly by the Pearl Initiative, the Centre for Responsible Business at Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. The workshop took place on 29th November 2011 and was hosted at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. Around thirty five senior finance, accounting, compliance and governance professionals participated in the interactive workshop session.

Partnering Against Corruption in the Arab World
The Pearl Initiative and the World Economic Forum Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI) held a joint private session within the World Economic Forum Special Meeting on Economic Growth and Job Creation in the Arab World – on 23rd October 2011, at the Dead Sea in Jordan. Forty three business leaders participated in the working lunch session.

Inaugural Board Meeting of the Pearl Initiative Board of Governors
Badr Jafar Speaks on Social Entrepreneurship to the AUS Deans List
Badr Jafar, Executive Director of the Crescent Petroleum Group of companies, founder and CEO of Crescent Investments, founder and Chairman of Gas Cities, and joint Initiator of the Pearl Initiative, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on 21 December to the annual Dean’s List at the American University of Sharjah. Mr. Jafar, in a wide-ranging address, discussed the growing importance of social entrepreneurship in the Middle East, why philanthropy is crucial in approaching the region’s social and economic challenges, and described the Pearl Initiative and its vision for creating a culture of accountability, social responsibility and business transparency in the region.

Pearl Initiative Soft Launch Event
Close to 100 business leaders and policy makers gathered at the United Nations to introduce the Pearl Initiative, a private sector-led program aimed at improving corporate governance, accountability, and smart CSR practices of business activities across the six countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The gathering was hosted at the UN and organized under the auspices of the United Nations Office for Partnerships, the Crescent Group of the United Arab Emirates, and the American University of Sharjah.
