What we’ve learnt:

  • Diverse and inclusive companies drive innovate results.Research has shown that companies with more diverse teams outperform those with a more homogeneous workforce.
  • As organizations recognize the importance of developing greater cross-cultural competence, Diversity and Inclusion champions and HR practitioners are often at the forefront of this work. However, the concepts of “Diversity” and “Inclusion” often mean very different things in different cultures, which make it challenging for organisations based in the GCC region.
  • The benefits of D&I are hard to translate at a higher level but using data and analytics plays a big role in this endeavor – providing the ability to identify where there are gaps, prioritize areas for action, and enable ongoing measurement of progress. Understanding your data and make them real.
  • Diversity and inclusion is enshrined as a top leadership priority and a core value that all employees should take part in. Fostering diverse workplaces and inclusive cultures require strong communication and an accepting, open-minded environment. Diversity and Inclusion champions and HR practitioners need to listen to their employees and give each individual a voice, sense of belonging within their organization as well as inform, educate and support all employees in adopting inclusive attitudes. This is the foundation for positive workplace relationships built on mutual understanding and trust.
  • Workforce trust and a sense of inclusion are built around a company’s transparency in its policies and communication about those policies. As the workplace evolves, company policies need to change as well.
