Social issues, such as poverty, education and health, affect men and women differently and sometimes disproportionately. Gender focused organisations look at how women experience situations and consequently design programmes that meet the needs of women in the community. Donors, on the other hand, are increasingly considering gender perspective when funding projects.

Studies by the World Health Organization (WHO) have shown that this is particulary important in the wake of pandemics, natural disasters and conflicts, where women are more severely impacted than men. However, beyond factoring gender into the decision making process of philanthropic investments, philanthropists need to also analyse the type of programmes they are supporting and how effective they are in addressing challenges faced by women in the community.

Led by experts from the Global Center for Gender Equality at Stanford University, this workshop will provide philanthropic donors and wealth owners with a cross section of global gender initiatives that have proven to be effective in alleviating some of the pressures and disproportionate effects of social issues on women and girls in the community.
